Best Tool to Extinguish Tin Candles: Wick Dipper
Wick Dipper: - Why It's Best:
A wick dipper is ideal for tin candles because it allows you to extinguish the flame without producing smoke, which can mar the scent and create soot inside the container.
How to use the Wick Dipper
1. Light Your Candle: Enjoy the warm glow and delightful scent of your candle.
2. Position the Wick Dipper: When you're ready to extinguish the flame, take your wick dipper and gently hook the wick with the curved end of the dipper.
3. Dip the Wick: Slowly dip the wick into the pool of melted wax. This action will extinguish the flame instantly without creating any smoke.
4. Straighten the Wick: After the flame is out, use the wick dipper to pull the wick back up and straighten it. This helps prime the wick for the next burn and keeps it centred.
5. Allow to Cool: Let the wax cool and harden with the wick in the upright position.
How to Use a Wick Trimmer
1. Wait Until the Wax is Cool: Trim the wick when the candle is cool to avoid moving the wick and wax while it’s still soft.
2. Trim to 1/4 Inch: Position the trimmer over the wick and cut it to approximately 1/4 inch. This is the optimal length for a clean, even burn.
3. Remove Trimmed Debris: Ensure that any trimmed wick pieces are removed from the candle to prevent them from becoming a fire hazard.
Why Trim your Candles?
1. Proper Wick Length: Trimming the wick to the recommended length (about 1/4 inch) before each burn helps maintain a steady flame, reducing the risk of soot and smoke.
2. Even Burn: A properly trimmed wick promotes an even burn, preventing tunneling where the candle burns down the center, leaving wax on the sides.
3. Longer Burn Time: Maintaining an optimal wick length can extend the overall burn time of the candle by ensuring that the flame doesn’t get too large, which can cause the candle to burn faster.
4. Safety: A wick that is too long can create a larger, uncontrolled flame, which poses a fire hazard. Keeping the wick trimmed helps mitigate this risk.
